Yesterday Deadline reported that Marc Maurino’s spec script, Inside The Machine, sold to CBS Films. Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are producing for Contra Films.

I want to wish Marc a huge round of congratulations for this sale. Last fall, I posted a series of pieces strolling down Filmmaker‘s memory lane. In each, I looked back at a single issue of the magazine, and in the second post Marc responded in the comments section with his own story. He wrote about how he discovered Filmmaker Magazine at a film festival and how it made him want to get into independent film. Subsequently he worked, I believe, as an intern at Killer Films, and over the nearly two decades of this magazine’s existence he’s been a loyal reader. In recent years he’s emailed me feedback and story ideas, and then, last fall, he entered his script into the IFP’s Emerging Narrative program. Through the IFP he hooked up with Circle of Confusion, and the process that led to this sale began. Marc doesn’t live in New York and L.A., he’s got a full-time career, and he’s not an “insider.” He’s a good writer and filmmaker who wrote a powerful script that draws a bit from subject matter he knows. I couldn’t be happier for him, and I look forward to following his project as it works its way towards production.
