Burke and Hare

After more than a decade of absence, seminal director John Landis (Animal House, Blues Brothers) returns with a pitch black comedy based on the true story of the U.K.’s earliest serial killers, William Burke and William Hare. Burke and Hare stars Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis as the Irish immigrants who, in desperation for money, turn to body-snatching for a profit. In the early 19th century, advances in medical science created a new demand for cadavers. Down on their luck, the two men resorted to murder to supply leading professors Dr. Knox (Tom Wilkinson) and Dr. Monroe (Tim Curry) with bodies for dissection. Balancing their “careers” with burgeoning relationships, the two plunge into a world of amorality and twisted humor. John Landis revives the dark humor he made mainstream with such greats as An American Werewolf in London and Twilight Zone: The Movie with a movie as relentless in gore as it is in laughs.
