IFP's Script to Screen Conference explores new opportunities available to indie filmmakers and writers with this full day of workshops, seminars, and networking. Anchored by conversations with veteran writer/director Barry Levinson (Diner, Avalon, Sleepers) and hot newcomer Mark Heyman (Black Swan), the day will also feature a look at new platforms for writers with Carol Kolb, Head Writer of the Onion News Network; a case study with the creative team behind Sundance breakout Martha Marcy May Marlene Ted Hope; and once again this year - a chance for five selected attendees to pitch their script idea to a panel of experts from Glass Eye Pix, Magnolia Pictures, and Visit Films.  Heartbeats Of Gods and Men Xavier Dolan, Heartbeats IFP: Script to Screen Conference Fest Deadlines Join our Forums  
Directed by Xavier Dolan (I Killed My Mother), Heartbeats is a contemporary look at love and friendship which follows three young people in Montreal involved in a love triangle. Francis (Dolan) and Mary (Monia Cokri), a gay man and a straight woman, have always been the best of friends. When they meet Nick (Niels Schneider) at a party, his dreamy beauty and flirtatiousness cause them both to lust for him. Eventually their crushes lead to jealousy between the two friends. "Basically what I was trying to tell people through this film is how shallow we can be in love," says Dolan in this week's Director Interview. Read our interview with Dolan below.
OF GODS AND MEN
Based on the story about the deaths of seven French Trappist monks in 1996 Algeria, Of Gods and Men, directed by Xavier Beauvois (Don't Forget You're Going to Die), takes us into the monastery of Tibhirine, where these monks live in harmony amongst their Muslim brethren. During the Algerian Civil War of the 1990s, the monks were kidnapped and found dead two months later. While their deaths were originally attributed to the Armed Islamic Group, reports uncovered that they may have accidentally been killed by the Algerian army in a failed rescue attempt. The film, which stars Lambert Wilson and Michael Lonsdale, won the Ecumenical Jury Prize at Cannes and has been nominated for Best Foreign Film at this weekend's Independent Spirit Awards.
