Drive
Sending a jolt of creative energy into the action thriller genre, Drive stars Ryan Gosling as a nameless protagonist who works as a stunt driver by day and a getaway driver by night. The Driver leads a solitary existence until he develops feelings for an attractive woman (Carey Mulligan) and her son, whom he learns are awaiting the return of their husband and father from prison. What starts as a rivalry matures into a collaboration, when the ex-inmate enlists the Driver’s help on a heist that could pay off his debt to criminals who have threatened his family. Of course, the heist goes terribly wrong and the Driver becomes embroiled in a criminal war over missing loot. With Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman as the criminals, Drive is a well-acted piece of neo-noir. Under the helm of Danish director Nicholas Winding Refn (The Pusher Trilogy, Valhalla Rising), the film is an ultra-stylish tour-de-force.
