SUBMISSIONS OPEN FOR YOUTUBE PLAY EXHIBIT AT GUGGENHEIM
Want to have your work featured among the likes of Warhol, van Gogh and Picasso? The Guggenheim Museum and YouTube have partnered to develop a contest to uncover what they call the “most creative video content in the world.” 20 videos will be selected for a special exhibition at the Guggenheim in October entitled YouTube Play. The submissions will be evaluated by an expert jury in the fields of art, design, film and video. Submission deadline is July 31, go to the Youtube Play channel to learn more.

SEATTLE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL WINNERS ANNOUNCED
The 36th Seattle International Film Festival end this weekend with audiences flocking to the 25 day fest as nearly 20% increase from last year. From May 20-June 13, the festival had shown 408 films. The awards ranged from the audience-selected Golden Space Needle Awards; the five juried Competition Awards, as well as the FIPRESCI Award for Best American Film. Borys Lankosz‘s The Reverse won the narrative Grand Jury Prizee , while Marwencol, directed by Jeff Malmberg, took home the doc Grand Jury Prize. TRIBECA ANNOUNCES SHORT FILM SELECTIONS
The Tribeca Film Festival announced today its line-up of short films. The Festival has selected 47, including Joachim Back’s 2010 Academy Award-winning film for Best Live Action Short, The New Tenants. They will be presented in six thematic programs with 21 world premieres, a record number for the festival. Selections include shorts directed by Ken Jacobs, Max Hoffman, James Cromwell, Joshua Bell, and returning TFF directors include Jacobs, Domenica Scorsese, Rodney Evans, Mark Street, Jean-Gabriel Periot, Tal Rosner, Bill Morrison, Thomas Hefferon and Sara Zandieh. MORE TRIBECA TITLES ANNOUNCED
The 2010 Tribeca Film Festival today announced its remaining out-of-competition feature film selections in the Encounters, Discovery, Cinemania and Spotlight sections. The Festival will run April 21 to May 2. The Encounters section, comprised of 14 films, include selections include new works by Academy Award-winning filmmakers Alex Gibney and Chuck Workman, Academy Award nominee Dana Adam Shapiro, and featuring actors like Ellen Barkin, Liev Schreiber, Melissa Leo, Rashida Jones, Tilda Swinton, and many more. TEN FINALISTS ANNOUNCED FOR SFFS/KRF FILMMAKING GRANT
The San Francisco Film Society and the Kenneth Rainen Foundation just announced the ten finalists for the third SFFS/KRF Filmmaking Grant. The grant (up to $190,000) will be awarded to the feature film that best exemplifies a social justice theme with a potentially significant economic or social effect on the Bay Area filmmaking community. Over the next five years SFFS and KRF plan to give out a number of grants that will total $3 million. IFP JOINS SHOOTING PEOPLE AND NYWIFT IN FIRST U.S. DELEGATION TO HOT DOCS
The IFP have announced they have teamed up with fellow organizations Shooting People and New York Women in Film & Television to lead the first-ever U.S. delegation to Hot Docs. 2010 TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL OPENS WITH “SHREK FOREVER AFTER”
Traditionally known for unveiling blockbusters on opening night, the Tribeca Film Festival will continue that tradition in 2010 when it screens the World Premiere of DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek Forever After. The final chapter in the successful Shrek franchise, the film will also be shown in 3-D. Shrek Forever After will be released nationally on May 21. The slate of films at this year’s festival, running April 21 – May 2, will be announced later this month. Tickets for the Tribeca Film Festival are available at www.tribecafilmfestival.com/festival.
