They have 1.2 million subscribers and over 190 million views. Here, they give us tips on audience building and navigating the waters of the video sharing giant.
by Scott Macaulay on Jul 31, 2012Our friends at the National Film Society hit SXSW this week and nabbed this interview with director Morgan Spurlock. Discussion topics include mustaches, Ryan Gosling, Das Racist and more. (And if you think these guys at the National Film Society are a bit silly here, just remember one thing: they’re now PBS hosts!)
by Scott Macaulay on Mar 14, 2012Wow, that was quick. At Filmmaker we’re used to spotting and promoting young filmmaking talent and, within a few years, seeing them graduate to studio blockbusters whose press screenings we aren’t invited to. But when we partnered this Sundance with the nascent National Film Society, we figured we had at least 24 months before they busted out of this joint. Just five weeks after we ran the National Film Society’s Park City spots, though, the duo of Patrick Epino and Stephen Dypiangco have gone network…. Well, they’ve gone PBS, and that’s a network in our book. From February 27 – […]
by Scott Macaulay on Feb 28, 2012Sundance 2012 is in the wind, but Stephen and Patrick from the National Film Society are back with another interview they filmed during the festival. This time out, the duo sit down with director Terence Nance (An Oversimplification of Her Beauty) and actress Namik Minter. Minter and Nance, who spent over half a decade readying Oversimplification, are good sports, answering Stephen and Patrick’s questions about their favorite part of being in love, their least favorite part of being in love, and how to get into Sundance parties. by Jane Schoenbrun on Jan 30, 2012Stephen and Patrick from the National Film Society are back with another Sundance interview, this time sitting down with Save the Date director Michael Mohan and star Martin Starr (Advenureland, Freaks and Geeks.) Stephen and Patrick have been inching towards perfecting their strange and unique interview style all week. This time out, they quiz Martin Starr about his love-life, ask Mohan how to make a movie, and invite both guys to join their society. Watch the full interview below.
by Jane Schoenbrun on Jan 26, 2012One of the hits of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival has been Robot and Frank, Jake Schreier’s tale of a retired jewel thief and the caretaker robot his kids purchase to assist him in his final days. In addition to Frank Langella, the film costars James Marsden, Susan Sarandon and Liv Tyler, and it was jointly acquired at the festival by Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and Samuel Goldwyn in a deal reported at over $2 million. In addition to being a great actor, Langella is a great sport. Here he is being interviewed by the National Film Society.
by Scott Macaulay on Jan 26, 2012Patrick Epino and Stephen Dypiangco of the National Film Society are back with a video interview with director Brian Knappenberger, whose hacker documentary We Are Legion premieres in competition at Slamdance this week. During the interview, which will give those of you not in Park City a good idea of the snow situation, Patrick and Stephen speak with Knappenberger about hacker group Anonymous, infusing comedy into documentary, and SOPA. by Jane Schoenbrun on Jan 23, 2012Filmmaker has partnered with Patrick Epino and Stephen Dypiangco of the newly-founded and ambitiously-named National Film Society for a series of video interviews at Sundance. In this first video, Patrick and Stephen catch up with comedians Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim on the red carpet before their Billion Dollar Movie premiere. Tim and Eric are their usual absurdest selves, and for their part, Patrick and Stephen turn in what just might be the most laid-back red carpet interview I’ve ever seen: Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie is available on VOD starting January 27th. And for some bonus hilarity, check […]
