by Scott Macaulay on Jun 19, 2011As readers of the blog and print edition know, I am scarily fascinated by the development and future potential of Stuxnet, the weaponized computer virus that slowed down Iran’s nuclear program last year. For those who need to catch up on Stuxnet, here’s a striking short doc that’s just over three minutes long. It’s made by Patrick Clair and Scott Mitchell for the Australian TV program HungryBeast. Mitchell scripted, and Clair directed and to the riveting motion graphics. Check it out. Stuxnet: Anatomy of a Computer Virus from Patrick Clair on Vimeo.

It’s not. “I Will Survive: Dancing Auschwitz” is apparently exactly what it purports to be: a Holocaust survivor and his family dancing at several concentration camps to Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.” Reaction to the clip has been mixed. Buzzfeed calls it “the most heartwarming Holocaust memorial ever displayed.” At Haaretz, the filmmaker defends her clip. From their piece: Australian Jewish artist Jane Korman filmed her three children and her father, 89-year-old Holocaust survivor Adolk, in the video clip “I Will […]
by Scott Macaulay on Jul 13, 2010When I posted the initially shocking “Scarface School Play” I was dubious about its authenticity while others were outraged. Now, Marc Klasfeld, the writer/director, explains the point behind it: “I have two children myself, and my wife and I guard our daughter from various television commercials about violence or sex, so I think there’s a message about that.” A rep from Share Group adds, “It’s very satiricial about viral videos… and by taking it to the next level, what Marc does well here is question the reality behind these videos. There’s a constructed reality, a perceived reality, and a real […]
