I’ll be blogging this week from the 2011 IFP Filmmaker Labs, which are in their third and final session at 92Y Tribeca. This year’s 21 participating documentary and narrative projects, are nearing completion of the grueling post-production process and are now turning their attention towards the marketplace. by Jason Guerrasio on Oct 1, 2011A few weeks ago we learned about Focus Features’ new VOD arm, Focus World, well today Deadline broke the story that at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (which begins Thursday) The Weinstein Company will go full steam ahead on their own VOD label. The Weinstein Company has also confirmed that Magnolia Pictures’ SVP and Head of Acquisitions, Tom Quinn, will come over to head the label along with Magnolia’s head of legal and business affairs, Jason Janego. Though they’ve been quiet about it, Dana Harris at indieWIRE posted yesterday that Focus has in fact started a VOD division called Focus World. The most recent title is the Sundance doc Resurrect Dead. Focus plans to release 8 to 15 straight-to-VOD titles a year. We’ll begin including the Focus World titles in our VOD calendar so be sure to keep an eye out for that.
