Caveh Zahedi has a blog up promoting his new film, I am a Sex Addict, which is opening from IFC Films next month. So far there’s been a lot of talk about porn star Rebecca Lord’s nipple (which would be pictured, but Blogger’s been having a problem uploading pictures, which is why photo placement on this blog is kind of erratic), but the blog is also prompting discussion of the efficacy of sef-distribution today. POOR CHOICES

A while back I linked to D.C.-based filmmaker Sujewa Ekanayake, whose blog, Filmmaking for the Poor, covers a range of no-budget film topics. Today GreenCine draws my attention to his site again with this link to a good post for the New Year: Ekanayake’s picks for “10 Filmmakers to Watch in 2006.” There are a few obvious choices here, talented filmmakers who he’s eager to see what they do next. CINEMA POVERA

Filmmaker Sujewa Ekanayake posted below in the comments section about Caveh Zahedi and his Gotham win. Over at his blog, Filmmaking for the Poor, Ekanayake talks with filmmakers working with tiny budgets — like this conversation with Zahedi — as well as offers his own DIY advice. ADDICTION AND RECOVERY

Leave it to Caveh Zahedi to win the hearts of indie filmmakers at the Gotham Awards when he accepted the Filmmaker-sponsored “Best Film Not Playing in a Theater Near You” prize. In his remarks he said that too many great indie films don’t make it to the theaters because, frankly, filmmakers are “too tired” after finishing their films and expect, unrealistically, distributors, who are struggling to get their own slates out there, to do all the heavy lifting. KUDOS FOR SEX ADDICT

I’ll have some stuff to say in the next day or so about Rotterdam and also, belatedly, Sundance, but while it’s still up and free I’m linking to this rave review in Screen International for Caveh Zahedi’s I Am a Sex Addict, which, unfortunately, premiered at Rotterdam before I got there. But from the sounds of it, there will plenty of opportunities to see it at festivals and, hopefully, in the theaters in the future.
