Here’s the trailer for The Fourth Dimension, the collaborative film by Harmony Korine, Alexey Fedorchenko and Jan Kwiecinski. (All trailers should be scored using Songify.) From the press release The Fourth Dimension stars U.S. actor Val Kilmer and is the first film to come from Golsch Film Words and VICE, and brings together a trilogy of directors from across the globe: Harmony Korine from the U.S., Russia’s Alexey Fedorchenko and Polish-born Jan Kwiecinski. by Scott Macaulay on Apr 19, 2012Back in the day Filmmaker took note of Peter Christian Hall’s independent drama Delinquent, and more recently we’ve followed his move into fiction writing. Now, film and literature are combining for the promotion of his new novel, American Fever, a dystopic tale about avian flu. With book trailers a requirement for new books, Hall has decided to let fans create one for American Fever — and win $1,000 in the process. What’s cool is that filmmakers can read the book for free and score their trailer to original music by Gang of Four’s Andy Gill. From the site of Hall’s […]
by Scott Macaulay on Apr 10, 2012An anthology film with bizarre “rules” that was produced by Vice Films and Grolsch FilmWorks and directed a trio of international auteurs including Harmony Korine, The Fourth Dimension was always destined to be decidedly odd. But, on the evidence of this newly released trailer, it looks like it could be pretty great too. Korine’s contribution to the film features Val Kilmer as a motivational speaker (called Val Kilmer!) trying to get people to harness their “awesome secrets,” while the rest of the film is comprised of segments from Russian director Alexey Fedorchenko and Poland’s Jan Kwiecinski about a time travel-obsessed scientist […]
by Nick Dawson on Mar 28, 2012On Facebook, Hammer to Nail’s Michael Tully describes this as “The Trailer of the Century!” And certainly Penny Vozniak‘s Despite the Gods — a doc about Jennifer Lynch making her third feature, Hisss, in India — looks incredibly compelling and entertaining. Judge for yourself below! The movie premieres at Hot Docs at the end of next month, and I’m looking forward to hopefully catching up with it shortly afterward.
by Nick Dawson on Mar 28, 2012Now that the film has come and gone, I seem to be in the minority of those who thought that David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Mind, with its viral take on the philosophy of psychology, was his most Cronenbergian film in years. But based on the just-released teaser, perhaps that crown may be more appropriately placed on his upcoming Don DeLillo adaptation, Cosmopolis. Even at only 30 seconds, many of them filled with title-cards, there’s a sense of brainy spectacle here that we haven’t seen in the director’s work in a while.
by Scott Macaulay on Mar 22, 2012This is the Hollywood trailer of the moment. I particularly love the music fake-out — starting with the typically ostentatious “epic score” and, after a moment of silence, phasing into something more modern and frightening.
by Scott Macaulay on Mar 18, 2012One of the films I’m most anticipating at Sundance 2012 is Keep the Lights On from writer/director Ira Sachs (The Delta, 40 Shades of Blue). The film essays art, autobiography, and New York gay culture in the 1980s, ’90s and early aughts, and even before its arrival it has spawned a rich website that riffs on all of those themes. Just posted at that site is the film’s teaser trailer, embedded below. Keep The Lights On — Trailer from KTLO Movie on Vimeo.
by Scott Macaulay on Jan 8, 2012Here’s the U.K. trailer for Steve McQueen’s masterful Shame, starring Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan. My interview with McQueen appears in our upcoming issue. (Click on the headline if you don’t see the video.)
by Scott Macaulay on Oct 14, 2011Here’s the new trailer for Jason Reitman’s follow up to Up in the Air. Titled Young Adult, it was written by Diablo Cody and stars Charlize Theron, who is the recipient of an IFP Gotham Tribute Award this year.
