Announced moments ago on UStream by Elvis Mitchell, the nominees for IFP’s 20th annual Gotham Independent Film Awards have been revealed. Known as the official kick off to the awards season, a total of 26 films were nominated across six categories for an event that gives recognition to this year’s top independent films. “NAPOLEON DYNAMITE” GETS ANIMATED

Get ready for awesome drawings, yummy tots and shouts of GOSH and IDIOT because the indie darling Napoleon Dynamite is getting the animation treatment. According to Deadline, Fox has picked up an adaptation of the 2004 hit for six episodes with the film’s writer-director Jared Hess executive producing and star Jon Heder voicing Napoleon.

“BLUE VALENTINE” GETS NC-17

In news that just makes you scratch your head, according the Mike Fleming at Deadline, the MPAA ratings board has given Derek Cianfrance‘s Sundance gem (and Oscar hopeful) Blue Valentine an NC-17 rating. Eugene Hernandez Leaves Indiewire for Film Society of Lincoln Center

Eugene Hernandez, the editor-in-chief/co-founder of indieWIRE will be joining the Film Society of Lincoln Center as their director of digital strategy, according to an announcement sent out today by FSLC. Hernandez is one of the most respected voices in indie film, starting indieWIRE in 1996 and building it to become the prominent site that it is today through tireless news and film festival reporting, and most recently bringing on marquee names to blog for the site like Anne Thompson, Todd McCarthy and Leonard Maltin. IFC TAKES “HARVEY WEINSTEIN PROJECT”

In a release today, IFC Films has announced they have acquired the worldwide rights (excluding Canada) to Barry Avrich‘s documentary, Unauthorized: The Harvey Weinstein Project. The release touts the film as a “powerful, uncensored, no-holds-barred account that traces Weinstein’s path from concert promoter on the cold streets of Buffalo to his first trip to the Cannes Film Festival, where he arrived with one pair of pants and closed his first movie deal, to winning an Oscar, and breaking the bank with his first $100 million film. BUSY DAY AT TIFF WITH “SUPER” & “DIRTY GIRL” LANDING DEALS

The first weekend of the Toronto International Film Festival comes to a close with two films finding distribution deals. Earlier today IFC landed the first major deal of the fest with a seven-figure deal for the James Gunn-directed wannabe superhero dark comedy Super, starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Kevin Bacon and Liv Tyler. MAGNOLIA TO RELEASE JARECKI’S “ALL GOOD THINGS”

Announced today, Andrew Jarecki‘s long awaited narrative All Good Things, starring Ryan Gosling, Kirsten Dunst and Frank Langella, will be released through Magnolia Pictures in December. In the press release from Magnolia the story is described as a murder mystery set against the backdrop of a New York real estate dynasty in the 1980s. It’s inspired by true events of Robert Durst who was suspected of killing his wife who disappeared in 1982 but never tried.
