You may have heard about the dinosaurs, or the scenes that display the origins of the universe, but at its heart this year’s Palme d’Or, “The Tree of Life,” is Terrence Malick’s look back at his childhood in Texas, a special moment that’s taken him most of his life to express. With Brad Pitt as the stern patriarch and Jessica Chastain playing the warm-hearted housewife, Malick takes us through some of the defining moments from the life of Jack (Sean Penn) after he learns his brother has died. (Dir. Terrence Malick)
