The Gotham Announces the 2025 Gotham Award Nominees; “One Battle After Another” Tops with Six Noms
Rose Byrne in If I Had Legs I'd Kick You (courtesy of A24) One Battle After Another, Familiar Touch and If I Had Legs I’d Kick You are among the multiple nominees for the 2025 35th edition of the Gotham Awards, announced today by The Gotham Film & Media Institute, Filmmaker‘s publisher. Among its six nominations, the Paul Thomas Anderson picture received nominations for Best Feature, Best Adapted Screenplay (from Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland), and Outstanding Supporting Performance (for both Benicio Del Toro and Teyana Taylor). Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Filmmaker‘s current cover story, received nominations for Best Feature, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Outstanding Lead Performance (Rose Byrne). Sarah Friedland’s Familiar Touch received nominations for Best Picture and Breakthrough Director. A mixture of US and international titles comprise the Best Documentary nominations: 2000 Meters to Andriivka, BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions, My Undesirable Friends: Part 1; The Perfect Neighbor; and Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk.
For this year’s awards, The Gotham has expanded its Best Feature category from five nominations to ten. When it comes to the Best Feature titles and their production models, they range from nine-figure studio productions, such as One Battle After Another, to ultra-low-budget equity-financed films. In 2023, The Gotham removed a $35 million budget cap for nominees, and in 2021 gendered acting awards were eliminated
Jeffrey Sharp, Executive Director of The Gotham Film & Media Institute, said in a press release: “This year’s nominees celebrate an extraordinary year of cinematic achievement — one defined by bold, original storytelling, festival breakouts, and filmmakers whose independent vision extends across studios and streamers. This year’s Gotham nominees, and our Gotham Tributes, reflect the year’s most accomplished filmmakers and performers and embody the community that has defined The Gothams for 35 years.”
Among the films not eligible for the 2025 Gotham Awards because they were not finished to screen for the full committee by the deadline are Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme and Bradley Cooper’s Is This Thing On?
The Gotham Awards will take place December 1 at Cipriani Wall Street in Manhattan.
The nominations as for the 35th annual Gotham Awards follow along with their nominating committees.
