Director Michel Gondry and singer-songrwiter David Ford have announced the winners of of the first ever Babelgum Music Video Awards. Babelgum viewers from over 100 countries participated, for the first time simultaneously from the Web and from Mobile phones. The 10 finalists rated highest by the public online were then viewed by Gondry and Ford, for their final selection of the overall winner.

From the release:

The Babelgum Music Video “Grand Prize” (a record development deal with Universal Music UK) went to Quio (Germany) for her “So Dazed”, produced by Christine Lang (Director) and Maria Schöpe (Production design).

“I liked the originality of the piece – commented Gondry –, which came from its composition, on multiple levels. It has some great colours and in-camera effects that really spoke to certain things that I like. Some of it was funny, some sad, and it was all executed very well – a nice balance of emotionalism and energy”.

The Babelgum Music Video “Performance Award” (an opening slot at a gig at one of MAMA Group’s live music venues) went to Old Wives’ Tale (USA) for their “[15]Amphetamine”, produced by Jaime A. Valencia – The Creative Motel and directed by Jorge Valdés-Iga.

The third prize, Babelgum Music Video “Mobile Award”, went to the 40 semi-finalists and consisted of promotion amongst the highlights of Babelgum Mobile, the new service version for Internet 3G enabled mobile phones, currently available in the UK and Italy.
