“25 New Faces” Screening Next Wednesday at NYC’s IFC Center
Last year, Filmmaker organized a nationwide tour of “25 New Faces” screenings that included a very enjoyable, sold-out screening at IFC Center in Manhattan. This year, there is another tour (now sponsored by Sony Creative Software and ARRI) and we are very happy to be having another event at IFC Center, which will take place next Wednesday, October 2, at 8pm. Kyle Patrick Alvarez has carved out an unusual niche for himself within American independent cinema; as he himself comments, “Everyone keeps on joking I have This American Life authors named David cornered now.” Alvarez made his feature debut in 2009 with Easier with Practice, a poignant, heartfelt drama about a young man who begins a phone relationship, initially sexual and then later also romantic, with a woman (or is it?) who randomly calls a motel room he’s staying in. The First Short Film Shot on the RED Dragon?
This morning, Norwegian filmmaker Gunleik Groven wrote me with a link to Sweet…, which he described as “Probably the world’s first short shot on [RED] Dragon.” In it, he creates four distinct worlds, each with a different look, and the results are very striking. For those of you who are tech-inclined and want to dig into the processes behind the short, check out this thread on the RED User message board in which Groven breaks down how he achieved each look.

It’s every independent filmmaker’s dream to have their film have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, but realistically the chances are very slim.
