TRIBECA REVEALS COMPETITION LINEUP
The Tribeca Film Festival today announced their 2011 world narrative and documentary lineup as well as introducing a new out-of- competition sidebar, Viewpoints, which highlights international cinema. A total of 45 features were unveiled for the 10th edition, taking place April 20-May 1, from a record number of over 5,600 submissions. IFP’S SCRIPT TO SCREEN ON SATURDAY
It’s not too late to attend the IFP’s Script to Screen Conference, which takes place this Saturday at 92Y Tribeca in New York City. SXSW CLOSING WITH THORNTON’S “THE KING OF LUCK” & ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL TITLES
The South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival revealed today that its closing night film this year will be the world premiere of Bill Bob Thornton‘s documentary on Willie Nelson, The King of Luck. They also announced additional titles to the fest, including a work-in-progress screening of Bridesmaids, starring Kristen Wiig and produced by Judd Apatow, and a short from Harmony Korine. CAMERON CROWE’S ELTON JOHN DOC WILL OPEN 2011 TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL
The Tribeca Film Festival has just announced that Cameron Crowe‘s documentary, The Union, will open their 2011 edition. The film follows the career of Elton John and his collaborative album with Leon Russell. It’s produced by T-Bone Burnett. Marking the festival’s 10th year, The Union will screen for free outdoors at the World Financial Plaza’s North Cove in New York City’s Lower Manhattan. Elton John will also perform after the screening. This year’s fest will take place April 20-May 1. The feature film slate will be announced in the coming weeks.

“BLACK SWAN” WINS BIG AT SPIRIT AWARDS
The Film Independent Spirit Awards just wrapped (see it on IFC tonight @ 10ET) and Darren Aronofsky‘s thriller Black Swan was the big winner taking home four awards, including Best Feature, Best Director for Aronofsky and Best Female Lead for Natalie Portman. Winter’s Bone won the supporting acting prizes with John Hawkes taking it for actor and Dale Dickey for actress while James Franco won Best Male Lead for 127 Hours, Banksy‘s Exit through the Gift Shop won Best Documentary and Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg won Best Screenplay for The Kids Are All Right. The IFP announced today the lineup for this year’s Script to Screen Conference. Taking place March 5, the event will take place at 92Y Tribeca in New York City. This year’s keynotes include Barry Levinson and Black Swan screenwriter Mark Heyman. Criterion Joins Hulu Plus
Beginning today The Criterion Collection has made available over 150 titles from its library on Hulu’s paid service, Hulu Plus. Known best as a destination for streaming the latest in popular TV series (as well as full runs of some TV shows), with the Criterion deal (only available in the U.S.) Hulu is trying to grab the attention of movie buffs, while keeping pace with it’s biggest competitor, Netflix.
