There’s been a lot going on with our current crop of 25 New Faces, so I thought I’d do a quick catchup of recent goings on. Firstly, four feature projects by 2012 alums are playing at this year’s SXSW Film Festival: there’s a world premiere for Ornana’s first narrative feature, Euphonia, while Bassam Tariq and Omar Mullick’s evocative documentary These Birds Walk (a world premiere at True/False later this month), Hannah Fidell’s A Teacher (which was actually shot in Austin) and Penny Lane and Brian L. Frye’s archival doc Our Nixon will continue their fest circuit runs there. (Incidentally, Lane and […]
by Nick Dawson on Feb 7, 2013Ingrid Jungermann, one half of the team behind The Slope and a “25 New Faces” alum from 2012, has just launched her new very funny web series, F to 7th. It’s a “homoneurotic” sequel of sorts to The Slope, again featuring Jungermann’s screen alter ego Ingrid, and exploring further comic territory that pokes fun at the LGBT community and Park Slopers. The first two episodes are online now and feature guest appearances by Michael Showalter (in “Off-Leash Hours”) and Compliance actress Ashlie Atkinson (in “Tweener”). Go here to check out the show.
by Nick Dawson on Jan 28, 2013Flicklist The Digital Age is a double-edged sword in terms of creative content: it has exponentially increased the accessibility of creation and consumption but also led to a flooded and overwhelming marketplace. Co-founded by Ted Hope, Brian Newman and Antonio Kaplan, Flicklist is a new iPhone app aimed at streamlining the search for films that you’ll love. Simultaneously allowing you to compile your own lists of cinematic recommendations, as well as follow the tastes of people whose opinions you trust, Flicklist creates an interactive social-media platform around movies and then alerts you to their availability, whether online or at your […]
by Filmmaker Staff on Jan 8, 2013Ingrid Jungermann was selected by Filmmaker as part of this year’s crop of “25 New Faces of Independent Film” along with her comedic cohort from The Slope, Desiree Akhavan. After chronicling the relationship between two “superficial, homophobic lesbians” in The Slope, Jungermann is striking out on her own with a new web series, F to 7th — currently in the final stages of its fundraising campaign on Kickstarter — in which the same “Ingrid” character reappears, now looking for her place in the world. Filmmaker briefly chatted with Jungermann about her upcoming show, going solo and lessons learned from The Slope. Filmmaker: Tell us about F to […]
by Nick Dawson on Oct 29, 2012I’ve not been posting as regularly recently as much of my focus has been on the redesigned Filmmaker website, which will be launching in the very near future. But, on this quiet Friday afternoon, I thought I’d take the opportunity to provide a few quick updates on the current class of filmmakers in our “25 New Faces,” who are a very productive bunch. Firstly, New Yorkers should head to MoMA this Sunday, October 28, for The White House Home Movies: Richard Nixon on Super-8, a screening which is part of the 10th MoMA International Festival of Film Preservation. There will be clips […]
