Watch: The Best Films of 2010-14 in Supercut Form
Kicking off with a dose of Skrillex and Spring Breakers, Kevin B. Lee’s latest supercut rounds up the best films of the decade thus far. The ranking was determined on the fairly informal basis of an all-are-welcome Twitter solicitation. I voted and am bitterly disappointed, though I guess not all that surprised, to see Computer Chess didn’t make it into the top 25. The most pleasantly unexpected inclusion is Kenneth Lonergan’s much-postponed, completely wonderful and nearly buried Margaret at #5. SXSW 2013
Mars is a lonely, spiritually bereft place in Philip K. Dick’s science-fiction classic The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch. Colonists live inside, away from the planet’s harsh elements and unexpected predators, whiling away the hours by playing a hallucinatory role-playing game called Perky Pat. Using little figurines — avatars, really — and a psychoactive drug, they transport themselves into a consumer fantasy world back on Earth. SXSW Announces Opening Night & More
Earlier today, SXSW announced their Opening Night lineup. Set on kicking off the fest with a healthy dose of pizzazz, SXSW first night will host the world premiere of the upcoming Steve Carrell/Steve Buscemi comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. In the film, Carrell and Buscemi play former best friends/magic show partners Burt and Anton. When Anton is injured and leaves the act, Burt is left vulnerable to the opportunistic street performer Steve Gray (Jim Carrey).
