Starting Today: 25 New Faces Week at the reRun Theater
During the fall, Filmmaker magazine organized a traveling screening series showcasing the work of this year’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film,” which included a fantastic show at the IFC Center. Tonight, the 25 New Faces series returns to NYC for a week of screenings at the reRun Theater in Dumbo, with the festivities kicking off with an excellent shorts program followed by an opening night party. Coogler, Tully, Guerrero, de la Vega and Cretton Among SFFS KRF Grant Winners
In recent weeks, we profiled in three posts on the site, the 13 finalists for the San Francisco Film Society’s Kenneth Rainin Foundation Filmmaking Grants. (In the current Fall issue of Filmmaker, we also spotlight the SFFS’s Filmmaker360 program, of which the KRF grants are the centerpiece.) Watch “25 New Face” Julia Pott’s Awesome New Short The Event
When I interviewed Julia Pott a few months back for her “25 New Faces” profile, she told me about the new film she was working on, a short about love and the apocalypse, based on a poem, which she had been commissioned to make by Channel 4. The Event, part of the Random Acts series, is Pott at her best, with her fierce imagination, beautiful hand-drawn animation and tragicomic sensibility colliding to make something really special. “25 New Face” Terence Nance’s Film for Peace
Last Friday was the United Nations’ International Day of Peace, and a group of international artists and directors were commissioned to make works in celebration of this. Terence Nance, one of this year’s “25 New Faces,” collaborated on his contribution to the films4peace series with Hank Willis Thomas. Hi, my name is Ian Harnarine and I’m one of Filmmaker magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film” for 2012. My short film Doubles With Slight Pepper won the award for Best Canadian Short Film at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and also won the Genie Award (Canada’s Oscar). Five Questions with When I Saw You Director Annemarie Jacir
A Bethlehem-born, Saudi Arabia-raised writer/director who earned her MFA in film at Columbia University in New York City, Annemarie Jacir was named as one of Filmmaker‘s “25 New Faces” in 2004 on the strength of her short film Like Twenty Impossibles. Damon Russell & Curtis Snow on Snow on Tha Bluff
After debuting at the Slamdance Film Festival in 2011, Damon Russell’s Snow on Tha Bluff had a small theatrical release earlier this year.
