Video sharing site Vimeo announced today Vimeo PRO, a new account aimed at small business — including independent filmmakers and production companies. Offering high-quality hosting at a competitive price (50GB of storage and 250,000 plays for an annual $199 fee), the new service lives separately from the regular Vimeo community.

From the press release:

“Until now, quality video hosting has been expensive, confusing, and extremely difficult for a small business owner to understand. Small businesses have fallen between the cracks of free video services and massive enterprise video solutions,” said Dae Mellencamp, Vimeo’s General Manager. “Vimeo PRO resolves the contradiction that best-of-breed video quality and hosting can also be easy and affordable.”

Among other features, Vimeo PRO offers business customizable portfolio websites, advanced statistics, and social media and privacy controls. Vimeo PRO users are able to opt into Vimeo’s “Community Pass,” enabling their videos to also be shared with Vimeo’s regular community. No advertising will be run over Vimeo PRO accounts, and users can customize the videos with their own logos.

One specific benefit for filmmakers touted by Vimeo is the ability of production companies to create multiple private portfolios for clients. Vimeo also says that Vimeo PRO will be a way for companies to market and distribute films from their own websites.
