Winner of the NEXT Innovator Award and NEXT Audience Award out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival and the Audience Award in the Berlinale’s Panorama Documentary section, a new trailer for Kokomo City arrives ahead of its theatrical release later this summer. The 2023 Tribeca Film Festival kicked off last night with Nenad Cicin-Sain’s Kiss the Future and now continues with its characteristically densely packed program of features, interactive and new media works, television and special events. The Gotham (Filmmaker‘s publisher) and Variety announce today Variety Gotham Week, a multi-day event celebrating the Broadway, film, television and audio creative communities, which will take place in NYC from October 2-6. Fantasia International Film Festival Announces Second Wave of 2023 Lineup
Fantasia International Film Festival announces today a second wave of titles to screen at the festival’s forthcoming 27th edition, which will take place in Montreal from July 20 through August 9. Screenings, workshops and launch events will be hosted at the Concordia Hall Cinema, with additional screenings located at the Cinémathèque Québécoise and Cinéma du Musée. A first wave of programming for the festival was announced last month, and the full Fantasia 2023 lineup will be announced in early July. Trailer Watch: Julio Torres’s Problemista
A24 has dropped the trailer for Problemista, the feature debut from writer-director-star Julio Torres, which first premiered at SXSW earlier this spring. Torres, who previously worked as a writer on SNL before co-creating and starring in the bilingual HBO comedy Los Espookys, plays an immigrant from El Salvador who takes on a taxing freelance gig as an esoteric artist’s (Tilda Swinton) assistant in the hopes of securing a visa so he can reside in the US long-term. WYPR Announces Baltimore’s New/Next Film Festival
Eric Allen Hatch, who contributed the “Why I am Hopeful” piece to our site in 2018 among other pieces, is announcing today the New/Next Film Festival, to take place in Baltimore from August 18-20. New/Next was organized in response to the news that the Maryland Film Festival, founded in 1999 and where Hatch previously worked as Director of Programming between 2010 and 2018, would not be having a 2023 edition.
