Film at Lincoln Center Announces Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla as the 61st New York Film Festival’s Centerpiece Selection
Sofia Coppola’s biopic Priscilla will serve as the centerpiece selection at the 61st edition of the New York Film Festival, taking place this year from September 29 through October 15. The film, which will be distributed by A24 later this year, will have its North American premiere at Alice Tully Hall on September 6. Starring Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla and Euphoria‘s Jacob Elordi as Elvis Presley, the film marks another collaboration between Coppola and DP Philippe Le Sourd (The Beguiled, On the Rocks) as well as French indie-pop band Phoenix, which will provide original music. Immersive Lineup Revealed for 80th Venice International Film Festival
The full Venice Immersive lineup, the XR (Extended Reality) section of the 80th Venice International Film Festival, has been announced today. Described as being “entirely devoted to immersive media” and encompassing “all XR means of creative expression,” the program will be held just a short distance from the Lido on the island Lazzaretto Vecchio (dubbed Immersive Island for the fest). Press previews will be held on August 29 before opening exclusively for press and industry on August 30. Steven Soderbergh Announces Sci-Fi Series Command Z Dropping on His Website July 17
Although his new miniseries Full Circle just premiered on Max, Steven Soderbergh has announced today that another episodic project—which he allegedly made between Magic Mike’s Last Dance and Full Circle—will be ready to watch by next week. Command Z, an eight episode sci-fi project that’s roughly 90 minutes overall, will launch on Soderbergh’s website, Extension 765, this Monday, July 17. SAG-AFTRA Votes to Strike, Shutting Down Film and Television Production
SAG-AFTRA is joining WGA on the Hollywood picket lines. Following the collapse Wednesday of its negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the union voted to strike, effective tonight at 12:01 AM.
