CAULEEN SMITH PREMIERES VIDEO INSTALLATION AT THE KITCHEN

Filmmaker and artist Cauleen Smith, one of our “25 New Faces of 1998,” is premiering a new video installation at New York’s The Kitchen this week. Remote Viewing will be on view January 7 – March 5, 2011. Admission is free. There will be an opening reception for the exhibition at The Kitchen on Friday, January 7 from 6:00-8:00pm, and a special screening curated by the artist on Monday, February 28 at 7:00pm. KATE MOSS: BEHIND THE SCENES, AND WITH SNAKE

The fashion and culture site Nowness has been generating some cool design-oriented videos lately, including this one — “Everglade,” the first of a four-parter based around surveillance camera footage of Kate Moss shot during a recent photo shoot. From a single side angle, Moss is captured while modeling the 2011 Balmain campaign by filmmakers Inex Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. VIMEO INCREASES UPLOAD LIMITS

All of you budding Bela Tarrs, take note: Vimeo has increased its upload limits to 5 GB. Okay, that won’t you get into Satantango territory, but it will let you stream two-and-a-half hours of HD content from the video sharing site. I have to admit, I find the way ads are served on the Film Annex sites is kind of weird. My browser gets spazzy as the “Pet Fit” commercial affixed to the head of this Abel Ferrara clip montage plays. Back in September we asked, “Is Apple Delaying a New Final Cut Studio?” The French rumor site Hardmac reported that the next version of editing software had experience “setbacks” and that, furthermore, engineering talent was being transfered to the iOS department. Vimeo has launched what they’re calling Vimeo Film School — a collection of online videos walking you through the process of selecting a camera, learning to shoot and take sound, and mastering the next level of technique, like using follow focus and lighting.
