This week saw Sony announce two new cameras, the PMW-F5 and PMW-F55, as well as some details about 4K recording for the NEX-FS700. Unfortunately, they didn’t announce many pricing details, other than the $2,000 price for the interface unit for the NEX-FS700. Game Changers Part 1: Getting Started
Filmmakers Rob Imbs (director) and Benjamin Eckstein (cinematographer) are currently shooting a low-budget independent feature film, Game Changers, a drama/comedy about two video-gamers who are approaching their late twenties. With an initial target budget of $30,000, Game Changers might be better described as a shoestring budget feature, given that they began shooting with only half that amount raised. Sony Announces F5, F55 and Other Toys
On October 30th, Sony announced two new cameras; the PMW-F5 and PMW-F55. Both cameras bring 4K capture, a common modular design and some new technologies to Sony’s CineAlta line of cameras. Unfortunately, what Sony didn’t release was pricing or sample video. The pricing may come in a couple of weeks, and video will reportedly be released sometime near the end of November. Canon to Bring Uncompressed HDMI Output to 5D Mark III
Canon has announced a firmware update for the 5D Mark III which will bring a long awaited feature to one of their DSLRs; uncompressed HDMI output. Unfortunately, the update won’t be available until April 2013. The update promises 4:2:2 8-bit video output, which may translate into slightly better video when used with an external recorder. Just as importantly, for those working in studio locations, or with an EVF, the HDMI output will improve the quality of monitoring.
