This program brings together ten projects helmed by first or second-time directors, with a special focus on underrepresented voices. “Completing and launching a documentary takes grit, nerve, and creativity; it also takes money, connections, and time. We offer women directors the tools to realize the full potential of their projects, both as works of art and as catalysts for change,” writes Chicken & Egg Pictures on its web site. Each participant will receive a two-part grant for the production […]

Burke attended the 2009 IFP Filmmaker Labs with her debut Stranger Things, and the 2012 No Borders Co-Production Market with Bright as Day, which Burke says is “about an aging anti-social wanderer and a teenage truant who band together to save an abandoned horse.” The script also took part in the Sundance Producing Lab and the Hamptons Screenwriting Lab. Concurrently, Burke is prepping Through and Through, which will participate in the Venice Biennale College Cinema in […]

by Sarah Salovaara on Jan 31, 2014In our imminent Winter 2014 issue, Joy Dietrich penned a helpful piece on grant writing for documentarians, in which she surveyed recipients of Cinereach, Creative Capital, Sundance, MacArthur, ITVS and Tribeca funding. Fortuitous timing then that MacArthur released its 2014 grants this morning to the tune of $2 million for 18 different documentary projects. Keeping up with the times, there’s even an interactive web platform designed around global youth communities. Said MacArthur President Robert Gallucci, “This year’s documentaries illuminate serious issues […]

Those who have previously screened at the festival are exclusively eligible for grants through the Rooftop Filmmakers’ Fund, ensuring a continued, symbiotic partnership between exhibitor and artist. As such, this year’s recipients feature […]
